The Audiobook Leap
Season 10, Episode 10
Releasing a book is supposed to feel like the end of something. For me, it sparked a whole new beginning. After Life After Grief: Holding the Numbers with Shaking Hands went out into the world, I found myself in conversations I did not predict, from speaking invites to podcast interviews to people asking how grief, money, trauma, and racism shaped the person I am today.
I also realized something simple about the way we learn: some of us read, some of us listen, and a lot of us do both depending on the season we are in. When you are grieving, attention and energy can change by the hour, which is exactly why I decided to create the audiobook. I take you behind the scenes on what it actually takes to turn a 250-page manuscript into a professional listening experience, including why I chose to delegate the production instead of trying to record everything myself.
You will hear how I partnered with Twin Flames Studios, how I evaluated narrator samples, and why emotional inflection matters when the stories carry real weight. I also share the tiny mistakes that still happen, what I learned about setting pronunciation expectations, and the moment I knew the narration worked when my kids stayed locked in like true beta listeners. The big message stays the same: you are not a product of your environment, and building resilience on the other side of hard decisions is worth it.
P.S. There is a bonus interview with me at the end of the audiobook.
